Donald Trump: A Precedent For America

Donald Trump has presented America with a precedent for which it apparently has no recourse to any defined legal or regulatory framework. This is the risk of electing a clearly unqualified person for president. Individuals with the most basic understanding human values and morality find Donald Trump repugnant, while educated persons see him as a clear and present danger to stability both at home in America and abroad. There is no dispute that Donald Trump has rightly fingered some real issues of concern for America, from illegal immigrants to terrorism and the economic welfare of many Americans. But he has demonstrated a disregard for women, Muslims and immigrants which borders on hate in some instances, and has facilitated comparisons with Hitler. While Trump is undoubtedly brilliant, he has exhibited a lack of perspective required of someone destined for the Oval Office. This coupled with his demonstrated capacity to follow his gut instincts and adopt and implement policies to further marginalize the aforementioned groups, disqualifies him from the office of the White House. His attitude and responsiveness to conflict situations, from America’s own race relations to addressing war-torn regions which have in some instances become a source of terrorism and healthy anti-American sentiment, are also similarly driven by his baser instincts and will further aggravate and antagonize these regions.Trump’s idea of cutting America’s national debt by getting creditors to accept less is heretic at best, and the treatment of minorities by his business interests in the past will make him a deeply polarizing individual, with the potential to reverse the gains made in promoting harmony and equality in America’s race relations.Having outmaneuvered the other Republican candidates to become the Republican presidential nominee, the Republicans recognize the potential disaster Trump presents as a president, but have mind-bogglingly decided to place America and the world at risk in its quest for the Oval Office. Donald Trump’s recent hiring of Roger Ailes, an individual with more than a few questions regarding his treatment of women in the workplace, has presented the Democrats with a potential can of worms as a political issue, but has underscored for the American public the fundamental concerns about Trump’s moral judgment and values. The proverbial writing is on the wall. The failure of the GOP to address this problem places America in a potential crisis situation for the next four to eight years. Hitler was allowed to accomplish his atrocities because the Germans remained silent and in awe of a brilliant, charismatic madman. With just two months to go before elections, America is faced with the possibility of someone with a not quite dissimilar disposition being elected to the Oval Office. While there is every indication that Trump will very likely lose the 2016 elections, is America prepared deal with a Trump Presidency? This is a question which cannot escape attention, and for the sake of America and many troubled regions globally, deserves an answer.
